        "Located on the left bank of the Sava River, [[Brežice Castle]] is an excellent example of fortified Renaissance castle architecture on a plain. In the 16th century it formed part of the military frontier against the invasion of the Turks. This Renaissance castle has rich Baroque architectural elements and interior decorations and has offered home to the [[Museum of the Posavje Region, Brežice]] since 1949. Numerous cultural events take place here, especially in the beautifully preserved Knight's Hall, among the most notable being the [[Seviqc Brežice Festival]] international music festival.\n\nIn 1990 the interiors of the Brežice Castle, especially the Knight's Hall, provided a splendid backdrop for the Tom Stoppard's art film ''Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead'' starring Gary Oldman and Tim Roth."
